ABSTRACT
Clinical characteristics of women with different obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) severity and adherence to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy have not been previously explored. To assess OSA prevalence, predictors, clinical polysomnographic (PSG) CPAP among adult Australian in a retrospective study. All female patients who underwent diagnostic PSG between 2014 2015 were included. was assessed during the study period 2018 2019 using multiple regression models.Among total 591 included this (Aboriginal, n = 86), diagnosed 458/591 (78%) patients; mild, moderate severe present 44%, 27% 29% respectively. Older age, higher BMI hypertension predicted presence OSA. The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) score significantly (8 (5, 12)) or without (10 13)) showed rapid eye movement (REM) sleep-associated apnoea-hypopnea index (AHI) all Adherence noted 171 (57%) 47% 57% 63% Three models (clinical, parameters, severity, combined (clinical PSG)) model had strongest predictive value demonstrated that ESS more oxygen desaturation associated irrespective severity.Older REM sleep-related AHI higher. symptomatic desaturation.
