ABSTRACT
Comorbidity from tegumentary leishmaniasis and AIDS is poorly characterized.To describe a series of patients coinfected with Leishmania human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).Clinical records were analysed by demographic data, clinical manifestations, diagnoses, treatments outcomes.Fifteen cases AIDS/tegumentary found. The diagnosis was confirmed the detection amastigotes or antigens cutaneous mucosal lesions. mean CD4+ T-cell count 84 cells mm(-3) (range 8-258) all classified as having according to Centers for Disease Control Prevention. A wide range manifestations found, varying single ulcer multiple polymorphic Mucosal lesions present in 80% 73% (53% mucocutaneous form), disseminated 60% genital 27% patients. All received anti-Leishmania therapy 53% showed relapses. Sixty-seven per cent highly active antiretroviral but no difference outcomes relapses compared those not using medication. Forty died during study period. In these patients, antibody Montenegro skin test useful leishmaniasis, probably because preceded immunosuppression due HIV infection.Clinical HIV-infected are diverse. Our data emphasize possible unusual this disease particularly severely immunosuppressed (< 200 mm(-3)).
