ABSTRACT
Summary Many anticarcinogenic drugs kill tumour cells by inducing apoptosis. We examined the effects of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O ) on arsenic trioxide (As 3 )‐induced cell killing. Low concentrations H (200 μ mol/l) inhibited ability As to induce apoptosis in Burkitt's lymphoma line Raji. altered form death from pyknosis/necrosis and also lowered degree killing . was capable preventing caspase‐3 activation induced Raji cells. Incubation with a phosphoinositide‐3 kinase (PI‐3K) inhibitor, wortmannin (100 nmol/l), blocked ‐induced activation. In addition, PI‐3K inhibitor partially up‐regulation Bcl‐2 Bcl‐X L protein expression, down‐regulation Bax phosphorylation I κ B α This investigation demonstrated for first time that low provide protection against vivo plays crucial role enhancing survival during , inhibiting cancer may be enhanced certain antioxidants treatment protocol.
