ABSTRACT
Aims: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common form of malignant transformation in mature cystic teratoma (MCT) ovary. Some investigators have suggested possibility origin from columnar epithelium. The aim this study was to analyse such tumours immunohistochemically elucidate their histogenesis. Methods and results: expression cytokeratin (CK) 10 CK18 examined 21 samples SCC arising MCT. CK10 also assessed SCCs different organs (skin, vulva, lung uterine cervix) for purpose comparison. MCT expressed 7/21 cases [33.3%, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.12–0.53] 14/21 (66.7%, CI 0.46–0.87). less frequently, but more as case cervix (CK10, 20%; CK18, 70%) 5%; 90%), both which are derived epithelium by squamous metaplasia. Conclusions: may be metaplastic
