ABSTRACT
We examined which, and how many, mucin markers are necessary to define the phenotypes of gastric cancers, re‐evaluated incidence their whether minute carcinomas arise as unclassified type. Well‐differentiated‐type ( n = 33) measuring ≤5 mm were using human (HGM) MUC5AC, MUC6 M‐GGMC‐1 (or paradoxical concanavalin A type III (Con A)), MUC2 CD10 stains, a new method separate previous intestinal into small The classified gastric, gastrointestinal, intestinal, types. MUC5AC or HGM, MUC6, MUC2, stains all cancer phenotypes. was 6%, 49%, 0%, 45%, respectively, when percentage positive phenotype set at >0%, 33%, 3%, 30%, respe‐ctively, ≥10%. Thus, panel HGM), is indispensable for accurately determining carcinomas, above‐mentioned classification important studying changes in histological types well‐differentiated‐type adenocarcinomas during change poorly differentiated type, well corresponding genetic abnormalities.
