ABSTRACT
Objective To describe trends in deaths from prostate cancer between 1970 and 1990, registrations of 1971 1986. Methods Data on were obtained the Office Population Censuses Surveys, age specific rates calculated. Results The number rose by 107% 3906 to 8098. 75% 1986, 5819 10 180. Age‐specific death registration also increased but a smaller amount than rise absolute numbers. Conclusions A component increase seen both can be explained concomitant elderly male population, group at highest risk, rises are more difficult explain, likely have had considerable implications for workload urologists should taken into account when planning future health services. With further increases expected over next decade will continue rise. Research required determine possible reasons last 20 years, true incidence prevalence general population identify aetiological factors.
