ABSTRACT
Diabet. Med. 28, 1088–1095 (2011) Abstract Aim To determine if a regimen with prandial + basal insulin compared attenuates post‐meal inflammatory and glycative biomarkers in patients Type 2 diabetes. Methods This test‐meal sub‐study the USA is from previously reported clinical trial comparing effect on glycaemic control of 24 weeks thrice‐daily pre‐meal lispro mix 50 (50% lispro, 50% protamine suspension) or bedtime glargine, both plus metformin. In sub‐study, glucose, insulin, triglycerides, high‐sensitivity C‐reactive protein, tumour necrosis factor α, interleukin‐6, methylglyoxal 3‐deoxyglucosone were measured during period mixed‐meal breakfast at final visit. Prandial ( n = 25) 21) administered same times as previous weeks. Results Post‐meal, group had significantly higher lower glucose well α than group. Glucose incremental area under concentration curve correlated curve. Insulin inversely protein However, after adjusting for curve, these inverse correlations no longer significant. Triglyceride was not any biomarker Conclusions Controlling hyperglycaemia diabetes meal‐induced increases interleukin‐6 insulin. The rise but biomarkers.
