ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Lies and deception are often used in the care for demented elderly with best intentions. However, there is a strong moral presumption against all forms of lying deceiving. The goal this article to examine evaluate concrete examples lies dementia care, while addressing some fundamental issues process. It argued that because slowly diminishes capacities one needs distinguish between truths falsehoods, ability be lied also disappears. When reasons reject explored, it becomes clear most them hold where patients concerned, though depends on patient. Lying, prima facie wrong, can sometimes justified an appeal well‐being. relationship well‐being truth further explored. Two deceiving beneficence discussed, from which concluded although cases beneficent or will not enhance patients’ well‐being, circumstances they do.
