ABSTRACT
Abstract This article focuses on an important research gap in recent literature the geography of labour market segmentation, namely internal skill formation within firms and how that is affected by inter‐firm relationships a production system among systems. We address this drawing Japanese perspectives integrating two approaches to flexibility – defined terms imperatives industrial organization production. In particular we integrate Asanuma's concept relation specific skill, developed context relations, Koike Inoki's enterprise skills, role job training formation. These concepts are illustrated with reference robot industry which has been according strategy flexible specialization.
