ABSTRACT
Background and purpose Stroke‐associated early seizures ( ES ) often complicate the initial course of acute stroke. This study intended to estimate rate predictive factors for impact on clinical outcome in patients with first‐ever Materials methods Consecutive stroke admitted D epartment M edicine from J une 2010 ecember 2011 were prospectively included. defined as occurring within 7 days Patients history epilepsy, transient ischaemic attack, subarachnoid haemorrhage cerebral venous thrombosis excluded. Clinical outcomes measured under subheadings mortality disability at discharge, according modified Rankin score. Results Of 441 (56.92% male patients, median age 55 years, 49.43% had haemorrhagic stroke) 79 (17.91%, 95% confidence interval CI ): 14.61–21.78%) suffered . At 37.64% disabled, 19.5% dead. In multivariate analysis, alcoholism, NIHSS admission, cortical location significant predictors Thirty‐day was predicted by admission [hazard ratio HR 1.14, : 1.11–1.18, P < 0.001], hypertension 3.79, 2.1–6.85, 0.001), alcoholism 2.43, 1.49–3.95, 0.001) seizure 2.58, 1.54–4.34, = 0.001). Conclusions Early occurred about 18% patients. Alcoholism, stroke, severe strokes predict development are an independent important risk factor mortality.
