Large Group Community‐Based Parenting Programs for Families of Preschoolers at Risk for Disruptive Behaviour Disorders: Utilization, Cost Effectiveness, and Outcome

ABSTRACT
Abstract A significant percentage of children with disruptive behaviour disorders do not receive mental health assistance. Utilization is lowest among groups whose are at greatest risk. To increase the availability, accessibility, and cost efficacy parent training programs, this prospective randomized trial compared a large group community‐based program to clinic‐based individual (FT) program. All families junior kindergartners in Hamilton public separate school boards were sent checklist regarding problems home. Those returning questionnaires above 90th percentile block randomly assigned to: (1) 12–week (Clinic/Individual), (2) (Community/Group), or (3) waiting list control condition. Immigrant families, those using English as second language, parents severe significantly more liklely enrol Community/Groups than Clinic/Individual FT. Parents reported greater improvements home better maintenance these gains 6‐month follow‐up. analysis showed that, 18 six times effective programs.
