ABSTRACT
1 This investigation was designed to determine the contribution of exercise pressor reflex resetting carotid baroreflex during exercise. 2 Ten subjects performed 3.5 min static one-legged (20 % maximal voluntary contraction) and 7 dynamic cycling oxygen uptake) under two conditions: control (no intervention) with application medical anti-shock (MAS) trousers inflated 100 mmHg (to activate reflex). Carotid function determined at rest using a rapid neck pressure/neck suction technique. 3 During exercise, MAS (MAS condition) increased mean arterial pressure (MAP), plasma noradrenaline concentration (dynamic only) perceived exertion when compared (P < 0.05). No effect condition evident rest. The had no on heart rate (HR), lactate adrenaline concentrations or uptake stimulus-response curve reset upward response arm rightward higher operating by without alterations in gain. Activation further MAP, as indicated relocation curve. However, HR only shifted pressures trousers. sensitivity unaltered activation. 4 These findings suggest that is capable actively pressure; however, it would appear modulate rate.
