Preterm birth rates in Chinese women in China, Hong Kong and Australia - The price of Westernisation

ABSTRACT
Background: The rates of preterm birth in Chinese women and the potential effects differing environments are poorly understood. Aim: To determine rate China, Hong Kong Western Australia. Methods: were obtained from records 26 611 pregnancies Jiangsu Province mainland 48 976 185 798 Results: Preterm increased 2.6 2.9% urban rural Province, respectively, 2.5% China-born Australia who required an interpreter; to 4.9% did not require 5.6% non-resident Kong; 7.6% for resident Kong. Within Australia, was significantly less born China declared themselves be (4.4%) than Caucasians (7.8%), other 'Asian' (8.7%) Aboriginal heritage (14.5%). Conclusions: is relatively low but appears differ environments. Differences between traditional contemporary lifestyles, possibly including smoking sexual practices, may contribute different birth. Further research this area provide avenues prevention also help prevent a possible rise complication pregnancy as society continues on path economic social reform.
