ABSTRACT
The implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is highly effective in the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias (VA) responsible for sudden cardiac death. However, probability occurrence these arrhythmic events presence cardiomyopathy remains uncertain. aim this study was to compare nonoccurrence life-threatening VA ICD recipients with Chagas' versus non-Chagas' heart disease. Over a mean follow-up 10.5 months, 53 (mean age = 50.1 years, 48 male) were evaluated. Eleven patients had disease, 19 idiopathic dilated and 23 ischemic cardiomyopathy. Ventricular tachyarrhythmias cycle length < 315 ms considered life-threatening. cumulative examined by Kaplan-Meyer method outcomes submitted log rank test. At 2 0 disease group 40% up 55 months (P 0.0097). Among cardiomyopathies different etiologies, those lowest VA, confirming its unfavorable prognosis importance preventive measures against death
