ABSTRACT
The type and severity of chronic liver disease may have different effects on health-related quality life (HRQL). aim our study was to determine whether HRQL in patients with differs by identify which clinical physiological factors affect this impairment. In study, measured a generic (Short Form 36) disease-specific (Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire) questionnaire. Clinical, demographic, laboratory data were collected at office visits. Patient's scores compared the published norms chronically ill populations. A total 353 (mean age 50 yr, 51% men) disease, either viral (hepatitis B C), cholestatic (primary biliary cirrhosis or primary sclerosing cholangitis), hepatocellular enrolled study. In general, lower than normal population similar that obstructive pulmonary congestive heart failure. In cirrhotic patients, some dimensions less impaired those diseases. More severe (higher Child's class) associated Chronic Questionnaire score Short 36's physical component summary scores. Older had weak negative association aspects HRQL.We conclude substantially reduces HRQL, impact does not differ markedly disease. measures poorer HRQL.
