This PCR-based analysis is the first molecular epidemiological study in Brazil testing Helicobacter pylori cagA and vacA distribution adults with gastric complaints, that includes a large number of carcinoma patients. Multiple-strain infection was identified 11/13.4% s1-m1 cagA+ genotypes were most common patients non-mixed infection. All s1 strains s1b, so subtyping not useful. s1b-m1 associated higher prevalence peptic ulcer than s2-m2 cagA− ones. In conclusion, genotyping may have clinical relevance Brazil.
