ABSTRACT
Experiments were performed in chloralosed cats with ligated adrenals redording of arterial blood pressure, heart rate and gastric volume, the latter a balloon method. Electric activation peripheral cut vagus at low high intensity induced excitatory relaxatory responses, respectively. Hexamethonium blocked stimulation‐bound bradycardia but now intensities resistant to a‐ fi‐adrenergic blocking agents naloxone sensitive atropine. Heating intact vagus, selectively activate thin afferents, resulted inhibition, due vago‐vagal reflex activation. When nerve had been proximally cut, local heating same pharmacological chnracteristics as those caused by electric stimulation. The observations suggest that hexamethonium‐resistant responses vagal stimulation are antidromic afferents which proposed function axon reflexes affecting motility.
