ABSTRACT
Abstract Oxygen is a limiting factor for plant growth and development under submerged waterlogged conditions. Plants are subjected to varying range of oxygen concentrations, such as normoxia, hypoxia anoxia which may differ over time space. To endure deprivation, plants have evolved series morphological anatomical adaptations, been extensively studied. However, metabolic reactions molecular regulation deprivation not well understood. A comprehensive understanding how respond deficiency stress tolerance integrated approaches imperative developing tolerant varieties the flood‐prone areas. In this review, adaptations recent advances in biochemical during discussed. Acquiring against an active process consuming considerable amount resources functional maintenance post‐anoxia escape strategies. Understanding mechanisms help devise contemporary traditional breeding approaches, management strategies improve anoxia‐hypoxia crop plants.
