ABSTRACT
Aims: Little is known about the effects of phytochemicals against Borrelia sp.causing Lyme disease.Current therapeutic approach to this disease limited antibiotics. This study examined anti-borreliae efficacy several plantderived compounds and micronutrients. Methods Results: We tested 15 micronutrients three morphological forms burgdoferi garinii: spirochetes, latent rounded biofilm. The results showed that most potent substances spirochete B. burgdorferi garinii were cis-2-decenoic acid, baicalein, monolaurin kelp (iodine); whereas, only baicalein revealed significant activity biofilm. Moreover, did not cause statistically cytotoxicity human HepG2 cells up 125 lg ml À1 20 .Conclusions: The effective antimicrobial all two sp. monolaurin. This might indicate presence fatty acid phenyl groups important for comprehensive antibacterial activity.Significance Impact Study: This reveals potential as an tool in fight species causing disease.
