ABSTRACT
Following previous research on improving the cleaning of crates used to transport broiler chickens from farm abattoir, a demonstration project was undertaken investigate improvements in crate washing commercial scale. The soak tank conventional system replaced with high-performance washer fitted high-volume, high-pressure nozzles. The wash water could be heated, and greatly improved filtration ensured that nozzles did not lose performance or become blocked. Visual cleanliness scores microbial counts were determined for naturally contaminated which had been randomly assigned different protocols. When combination mechanical energy, heat chemicals (i.e. detergent disinfectant) used, results showed significant cleaning. Reductions up 3·6 3·8 log10 CFU per base achieved Campylobacter Enterobacteriaceae, respectively, along marked improvement visual cleanliness.Broiler may heavily faeces this contribute spread disease between farms. trial use reducing zoonotic pathogens poultry meat supply chain.
