ABSTRACT
Actinic keratosis (AK) may show extension down follicles, not only in cases with full-thickness epidermal atypia ('bowenoid' AK), but also limited to the basalis. Previous studies have demonstrated that, bowenoid AK, follicular is usually superficial, being upper segment. Little known about depth of involvement invasive squamous cell carcinoma skin (iSCC) arising from AK and role follicle iSCC pathogenesis. This study investigated relationship between atypical keratinocytes an development wall. The was correlated invasion iSCC. Differences differentiated classical pathways were examined. We performed a retrospective histologic review 193 biopsy specimens associated AK. We assessed presence using tumour (Breslow) thickness unit level (infundibular, isthmic subisthmic), as well present directly adjacent basalis.Follicular 25.9% (50 cases), extending into lower basalis 58% (29 correlating highly (infundibular: 3/12; isthmic: 21/33; subisthmic 5/5).The correlates iSCC, irrespective pathway origin. It therefore important note when diagnosing likely accounts for significant proportion recurrent following superficial treatment modalities.
