ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Responses to experimental pain have suggested central and peripheral sensitisation in adult patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). Recent studies proposed an algometry‐derived dynamic measure of sensitisation, slowly repeated evoked (SREP), which is useful the discrimination painful conditions related sensitisation. Pain fatigue are two symptoms that affect general functioning SCD most significantly, however, research about measures their relation main (pain fatigue) still scarce. Objective This preliminary study aimed test utility SREP protocol for detecting SCD, evaluate associations threshold, tolerance clinical fatigue. Methods Twenty‐two female outpatients 20 healthy women participated. tolerance, were assessed by algometry fingernail. Clinical pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression catastrophizing evaluated. Results No group differences found threshold tolerance. However, using protocol, was greater than participants, even after controlling psychological variables body mass index. inversely associated levels group, being predictor. Conclusions did not discriminate between individuals, but predicting severity SCD. The provides a detection enhanced could contribute more personalised evaluations treatment these patients.
