ABSTRACT
Abstract A portable sugar content detector for intact kiwifruits was developed using a visible/near‐infrared spectrometer over the wavelength of 350–1,100 nm as spectra collector, tablet computer controller, micro‐halogen lamp light source, and self‐made “Y” shape optical fiber transmitter receiver. The software applied to collect spectra, establish prediction model, predict by Java language. Partial least square regression model established determine kiwifruits. Contrasted with obtained digital refractometer, root‐mean‐square error 0.93% in soluble solids content. could be given 2.5 s. study shows that is promising tool on‐site or field nondestructive measurement on Practical applications handheld spectrometer, computer, lamp, fiber. content, makes nondestructively detecting orchard in‐situ possible.
