ABSTRACT
Abstract Open‐source, satellite‐based digital elevation models (DEMs) are widely used for flood modeling. However, studies on effectiveness of these DEMs in depicting local‐level processes limited. This study generated a high‐resolution terrain model (DTM) based unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry and two‐dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic (HEC‐RAS) to simulate the floodplain environment Jamuna River northern Bangladesh. The few was also compared with this DTM by using same model. Field data two seasons were collected develop results indicate that 2D UAV‐based provides parameters, such as arrival time, depth, duration extent, better than those from DEMs. Of open‐source DEMs, FABDEM WorldDEM™ have least errors provide SRTM30, ALOS PALSAR, ASTER UAV technique ground control points field measurements tree‐canopy water areas is very useful generating fit‐for‐purpose DTM. findings would be generation DEM selection modeling elsewhere.
