ABSTRACT
Abstract Purpose To address the gap in evidence‐based information required to support development of advanced practice nursing (APN) roles Switzerland, stakeholders identified need for guidance generate strategic evaluation data. This article describes an framework developed inform decisions about effective utilization APN across country. Approach A participatory approach was used by international group stakeholders. Published literature and evidenced‐based introducing were analyzed applied define purpose, target audiences, essential elements framework. Through subsequent meetings review expert panel, refined. Findings evaluate different types as they evolve meet dynamic population health, setting, health system needs created. It includes a matrix key concepts guide evaluations three stages role development: introduction, implementation, long‐term sustainability. For each stage, objectives questions examining structures, processes, outcomes from perspectives (e.g., patients, providers, managers, policy‐makers) identified.
