ABSTRACT
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this article is to analyze the concept maternal autonomy in context breastfeeding and propose a clearer definition concept. Methods A analysis was undertaken using Walker Avant's eight‐stage approach. Findings suggests that refers mother's ability make autonomous decisions her control, agency, independence, ethical reasoning. antecedents are competence, availability support, nature setting, available alternatives with respect breastfeeding. consequences improvement child health, maternal–child bonding, decisions, healthcare‐seeking behavior. Conclusions understanding will guide development conceptual framework expand nursing knowledge development. Clinical Relevance clinicians, researchers, policy makers protecting, promoting, supporting globally towards achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, 2015–2030.
