ABSTRACT
Abstract Background A recent report suggested potential of high‐intensity focused ultrasound in improving UVB‐induced hyperpigmentation patients with Fitzpatrick skin type IV, but reports regarding its efficacy other hyperpigmented conditions including melasma are lacking. Objectives To investigate and safety for the treatment Asians. Methods Each side face 25 was randomized to receive 3‐monthly sessions or serve as control. Lightness index, Melasma Area Severity Index malar area (MASI m ) by blinded dermatologists, self‐evaluated improvement satisfaction scales patients, effects were assessed every 4 weeks 20 weeks. Results Twenty‐one III IV completed study. There a greater reduction relative lightness index MASI after ultrasound‐treated side. However, there no statistically significant differences between both sides. More than 50% on rated 11 (52.4%). Side minimal. None had worsening melasma. Conclusions High‐intensity may be an adjuvant Further studies larger sample size proper parameter settings recommended determine efficacy.
