ABSTRACT
We studied the impact of radical pericardiectomy on early and long-term patient survival, postoperative New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class, left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with chronic constrictive pericarditis compared to a sub-total pericardiectomy. From 1991 2016, 41 underwent for pericarditis. Sub-total was performed 17 (41%) 24 (59%) patients. Patients two study groups had statistically similar NYHA fraction, cardiac catheterization data. Follow-up 100% complete median time 4 years.Radical resulted increased survival rates at 10 years (94%) (55%) (P = 0.014). In idiopathic sub-group, were also after 0.001). Eighty-five percent class I or II 5 94% up 25 versus 53% 63%, respectively, group.Radical provided superior 10-year clinical improvement pericaridectomy.
