Current state of management of struma ovarii and preoperative imaging features: A retrospective case series study of 18 patients at a single institution

ABSTRACT
Even though 95% of struma ovarii are benign, it is often overtreated because the difficulty to distinguish from malignancy. In this study, our aim was evaluate current state preoperative diagnosis and selection surgical procedure, improve diagnostic accuracy by retrospectively reviewing imaging findings.We reviewed clinical course characteristics 18 patients who were diagnosed postoperatively with ovarii, pathologically, at institution between 2015 2021.The diagnoses included benign ovarian tumor in eight cases, borderline four malignant six cases. None cases as preoperatively. Of seven had confirmed a desire for future childbearing, suspected or preoperatively, underwent abdominal adnexectomy. without laparoscopic surgery performed only 45% whose benign. On magnetic resonance (MRI), 54% showed enhanced solid components, which characteristic tumors, but diffusion restriction observed 11%. computed tomography (CT), 78% high attenuation lesion reflecting thyroid tissue.Struma difficult malignancy making choice approach complicated. A comprehensive evaluation diffusion-weighted MRI CT findings may ovarii.
