ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND This study used a new Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) assessment tool to test the associations between physical attributes of schools and violence‐related behaviors perceptions students. METHODS Data were collected from 4717 students 50 middle schools. Student risk safety, violence assessed. Evaluators CPTED School Assessment (CSA) quantify how well elements each school correspond ideal principles. Generalized linear mixed models adjust for school‐ student‐level characteristics. RESULTS Higher CSA scores generally associated with higher safety lower levels perpetration perceived in unadjusted models. also odds missing because concerns most adjusted models, significant ratios (AORs) ranging 0.32 0.63. parking bus loading areas remained (AORs = 1.28 1.32, respectively) 0.73 0.66, CONCLUSIONS The is useful assessing environments that are perceptions. might help guide environmental modifications reduce violence.
