ABSTRACT
Abstract Southern leaf blight (SLB) caused by the fungus C ochliobolus heterostrophus (Drechs.) Drechs. is a major foliar disease of maize worldwide. Our objectives were to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) for resistance SLB and flowering traits in recombinant inbred line (RIL) population derived from cross lines LM5 (resistant) CM140 (susceptible). A set 207 RILs phenotyped at three time intervals two consecutive years. Four putative QTL detected on chromosomes 3, 8 9 that accounted 54% total phenotypic variation. Days silking anthesis–silking interval (ASI) located 6, 7 9. comparison obtained results with published studies suggested bins 9.03/02 8.03/8.02 are hot spots whereas novel identified 3.08 8.01/8.04. The linked markers being utilized marker‐assisted mobilization conferring elite backgrounds. Fine mapping will facilitate identification candidate genes underlying resistance.
