ABSTRACT
Abstract Tryblionella (Bacillariaceae) was described by Smith in 1853, and for many years, the diagnosis of this genus questionable. Recent molecular analysis based on rbc L gene marker suggests that is a polyphyletic with T. apiculata , hungarica gaoana forming distinct group from other representatives. Therefore, study aimed to clarify as genus. The focus selected species previously categorized within Grunow's section Apiculatae, which includes type acuminata . This classification serves foundation conducting morphological comparisons taxa sensu lato, are likely represent highly diverse genera. Our review detailed examination frustule ultrastructure ontogeny combined new phylogenetic derived three‐gene concatenated dataset. results our research indicated among several monophyletic groups can be distinguished, including stricto (s.s.), three key characters: porose valve cross‐section; longitudinal undulation, where peak undulation located proximal side valve; presence an axial sternum thickened relief virgae. s.s. share similar girdle structure: graded, except first band bears single row poroids pars exterior crenulate margin corresponding distal mantle.
