ABSTRACT
Summary The main purpose of the present analysis is to assess influence introducing early nasal continuous positive airway pressure ( nCPAP ) treatment on cardiovascular recurrences and mortality in patients with a first‐ever ischaemic stroke moderate–severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) an apnea–hypopnea index (AHI) ≥20 events h −1 during 5‐year follow‐up. Patients received conventional for were assigned randomly group n = 71) or control 69). Cardiovascular registered all patients. Survival event‐free survival performed after follow‐up using Kaplan–Meier test. had significantly higher than (100 versus 89.9%, log‐rank test 5.887; P 0.015) However, also despite tendency, there no significant differences at 68 months between CPAP groups (89.5 75.4%, 3.565; 0.059). Early therapy has effect long‐term OSA.
