ABSTRACT
Summary The effects of serum hepatitis B e antigen ( HB eAg) on the prognosis hepatocellular carcinoma HCC ) patients after hepatectomy remain controversial. Our aim was to explore prognostic significance eAg with using a propensity matching model. Between January 2009 and March 2015, 953 who underwent in West China Hospital were analysed. Propensity analysis applied, survival performed Kaplan‐Meier method. Risk factors identified by Cox proportional hazards All classified into an eAg(−) group (n = 775, 81.3%) or eAg(+) 178, 18.7%). Patients positive had poorer recurrence‐free overall before matching. Similar results found within Milan criteria. For beyond criteria, poor In term survival, there no statistically significant impact P .055), although trend for patient have reduced survival. Positive eAg, HBV ‐ DNA load, largest tumour size, multiple tumours, microvascular invasion high level preoperative alpha‐fetoprotein risk recurrence. model confirmed that negative recurrence long‐term irrespective stages. seroconversion might be beneficial reducing rate
