ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Autoantibodies to ribosomal P proteins (anti‐rib P) are specific serological markers for systemic lupus erythematosus ( SLE ) and associated with liver involvement in this disease. The similarity autoimmune background between hepatitis AIH ‐associated raises the possibility that anti‐rib antibodies might also have relevance . Aims To evaluate frequency clinical significance of a large cohort. Methods Sera obtained at diagnosis 96 patients 82 healthy controls were tested IgG anti‐ribosomal protein by ELISA All sera screened other lupus‐specific autoantibodies, three presence anti‐ds DNA n = 1) anti‐Sm 2) excluded. Results Moderate high titres (>40 U) antibody found 9.7% (9/93) none 0.003). At presentation, without had similar demographic/clinical features, including cirrhosis (44.4 vs. 28.5%, 0.44), hepatic laboratorial findings > 0.05). Importantly, final observation (follow‐up period 10.2 ± 4.9 years), significantly higher compared negative group (100 60%, 0.04). Conclusion novel demonstration or laboratory evidence suggests common underlying mechanism targeting these two diseases. In addition, appears predict worse prognoses.
