ABSTRACT
Summary The fru 2 metabolic operon of Streptococcus agalactiae encodes the phosphoenolpyruvate:carbohydrate phosphotransferase system (PTS) enzyme II complex Fru (EIIB Fru2 , EIIA and EIIC ); R, a transcriptional activator with PTS regulatory domains (PRDs); d ‐allulose‐6‐phosphate 3‐epimerase; transaldolase; transketolase. We showed that transcription is induced during stationary phase growth in media incubation human cerebrospinal or amniotic fluids. ‐allose ‐ribose are environmental signals governing this induction. involved activation promoter, histidine‐67 cysteine‐9 EIIB important for function. also controlled by R. histidine‐243 PRD 1 domain, histidine‐323 cysteine‐400 EIIB‐like histidine‐549 EIIA‐like domain function R binds to DNA region containing palindromic sequences upstream identified start site. interacts physically C‐terminal part (expressing motifs) . propose model regulation depending on presence an activatory carbohydrate medium.
