Toward a New Multilingual Educational Policy in Israel: Attitudes and Perceptions of Teachers and Students

ABSTRACT
Abstract Israel's Education Ministry invited proposals for the development of a new multilingual policy country's education system. We submitted proposal an ‘engaged language policy’ approach, which helps schools to conceptualize and develop that best fits them ideologically demographically. This study aimed map teachers’ students’ attitudes toward various principles practices in order gather baseline data policy. It consisted mixed method design included 2,157 Jewish Arab teachers students. Results showed positive stance general readiness implement it. There was overall support expanding range languages offered strengthening immigrants’ languages, beside Arabic Hebrew instruction Jews Arabs, respectively, together with reservations, especially about translanguaging accommodations immigrants. Several differences emerged between reflecting essential gaps regarding identity Israel. The findings provide basis developing on more stable ground, adjusting its central different contexts implementing it gradually, enabling each school own based ideology demography.
