ABSTRACT
The current study explored whether fathers and mothers from 195 two-parent U.S. families engaged in a form of activation parenting (i.e., sensitivity, cognitive stimulation, moderate intrusiveness) with their secondborn, 12-month-old infants during 15-min challenging teaching task, to determine if this type interaction was more common among fathers.Mean comparisons showed that were lower on positive regard, stimulation development, detached than mothers.Latent Profile Analyses revealed similar supportive, disengaged, profiles for mothers, the class.Chi-square analyses found significant associations across fathers; most (30%) had 26% having supportive fathers, 11.4% two parents.Parenting unrelated attachment security.Results need be replicated children different ages, backgrounds, beyond paradigm.Research father-infant has burgeoned since Lamb (1975) claimed forgotten contributors child development.Fathers are fully capable engaging responsive, nurturant, sensitive caregiving.On one hand, paternal responsiveness, predict children's social even when controlling maternal behavior (e.g.,
