ABSTRACT
Abstract Introduction Intraluminal esophageal impedance (ILEE) has the potential to measure luminal distension during swallow‐induced peristalsis in esophagus. A cause of inaccuracy ILEE measurement is air bolus. Aim Compare a novel gel bolus current alternatives for impedance‐based (cross‐sectional area, CSA) primary peristalsis. Methods 12 healthy subjects were studied using high‐resolution manometry (HRMZ) and concurrently performed intraluminal ultrasound (US) imaging Three test materials used: 1) gel, 2) 0.5 N saline, 3) commercially available Diversatek EFTV viscous. Testing was supine Trendelenburg (−15°) positions. US assessed CSA. The Nadir values correlated measured custom Matlab software used assess travel times Results had least amount its passage through esophagus, as by image analysis. positions best linear fit between CSA nadir value ( R 2 = 0.88 & 0.90). calculation with use Conclusion We suggest along contraction routine clinical HRM testing.
