ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Self‐efficacy in defecation plays an important role on behavioral therapy for functional constipation (FC). There is unmet need valid child self‐report measures of task‐specific self‐efficacy pediatric FC. Our aim was to cross‐culturally validate the Self‐Efficacy Functional Constipation Questionnaire (SEFCQ) and explore salient factor(s) that correlate with anxiety symptom severity among Chinese children. Methods The SEFCQ adapted version following Rome Foundation guidelines translation questionnaires. Two hundred three children FC were involved psychometric testing. Confirmatory factor analysis conducted determine structure SEFCQ. Construct validity evaluated by testing relationship between both Patient Assessment Symptoms (PAC‐SYM). Test‐retest reliability, internal consistency, interfactor correlation used evaluate reliability. Hierarchical multiple regression identify correlates severity. Key Results supports two‐factor Adequate test‐retest reliability ( r = 0.973, p <0.001) consistency (Cronbach's α 0.871) obtained. Both factors significantly associated −0.227 −0.350, PAC‐SYM −0.495 −0.602, <0.001), emotional being most predicting after controlling sex, age, quality parents’ marriage, family history. Conclusion Inferences showed satisfactory properties. Low may contribute poor adherence behavior change, which exacerbates symptoms constipation. Further study needed apply social cognitive intervention increase children's assess its effect treatment outcomes.
