ABSTRACT
Objective To investigate the pathological effects on temporomandibular joint cartilage of an experimentally created unilateral anterior crossbite prosthesis. Methods Six‐week‐old female Sprague–Dawley rats were divided into experimental and control groups further three subgroups for time points ( n = 9). In groups, was by bonding two metal tubes left maxillary mandibular incisors. 2, 4, or 8 weeks after operation, histomorphological changes expression PCNA , COL II aggrecan, MMP ‐3, ‐9, ‐13, TIMP ‐1 in condylar investigated hematoxylin–eosin toluidine blue staining, real‐time PCR immunohistochemistry. Results decreasing chondrocytes, cell‐free areas, reduction thickness hypertrophic layer, loss extracellular matrix noticed. The level decreased at week 2 4. mRNA 4 that aggrecan increased but week. MMP‐9, MMP‐13, TIMP‐1 2‐week 4‐ 8‐week, while MMP‐3 8‐week. Conclusions present prosthesis led to degradation cartilage.
