Increased oral inflammation, leukocytes, and leptin, and lower adiponectin in overweight or obesity

ABSTRACT
Objectives The association between body mass index ( BMI ) and oral diseases was investigated, levels of obesity‐related inflammatory mediators were evaluated. Subjects Methods Participants n = 160) clinically radiographically examined for diseases. Blood profiles recorded. Levels adiponectin, leptin, C‐reactive protein CRP measured. Results One hundred thirteen (70.6%) participants had overweight or obese status ≥ 23.0 kg/m 2 ). Sum dental severe periodontitis higher in individuals than normal‐weight p .037 .002, respectively). A significant difference mucosal disorders normal weight obesity not found. Plasma leukocyte counts, liver enzymes, increased while adiponectin decreased with ≥23.0 compared participants. After adjusting age, sex, fasting plasma glucose level, smoking, exercise, associated sum (ß 0.239, .013), OR =4.52; 95% CI 1.37, 14.95, –0.359, < .001), leptin 0.630, =12.66; 3.07, 52.21, .001). Conclusion Overweight Thai people related to an increase periodontal altered health profile mediators.
