ABSTRACT
Abstract Introduction Infection is one of the most important complications associated with cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) therapy. The number reports comparing outcomes transvenous lead extraction (TLE), surgical extraction, and conservative treatment for CIED infections using a real‐world database limited. This study investigated association between strategies their outcomes. Methods We performed retrospective analysis 3605 patients admitted to 681 hospitals nationwide claim‐based collected April 2012 March 2018. Results divided into TLE ( n = 938 [26%]), 182 [5.0%]), 2485 [69%]) groups. was more frequently in younger at larger p trend < .001 both). rate increased during period, whereas that decreased lower in‐hospital mortality (vs. extraction: odds ratio [OR], 0.20; 95% CI, 0.06–0.70; vs. treatment: OR, 0.45; CI: 0.22–0.94) 30‐day readmission rates 0.18; 0.06–0.56; 0.06; 0.03–0.13) propensity score‐weighted analyses. Conclusions Only 26% hospitalized received TLE. significantly recurrence than treatment, suggesting should be widely recommended as first‐line infections.
