ABSTRACT
Summary The fire blight susceptible apple cultivar Malus × domestica Borkh. cv. ‘Gala’ was transformed with the candidate resistance gene FB _ MR 5 originating from crab accession robusta (Mr5). A total of five different transgenic lines were obtained. All shown to be stably and originate events. express either driven by constitutive Ca MV 35S promoter ocs terminator or its native sequences. Phenotyping experiments performed Mr5‐virulent Mr5‐avirulent strains Erwinia amylovora , causal agent blight. Significantly less disease symptoms detected on after inoculation two E. strains, while significantly more shoot necrosis observed mutant strain ZYRKD 3_1. results these demonstrated ability a single isolated pool protect Furthermore, this is confirmed determinant Mr5 as undergo same gene‐for‐gene interaction in host–pathogen relationship Mr5– .
