ABSTRACT
Lodging reduces grain yield in cereal crops. Understanding the genetic basis of lodging resistance (LR) benefits LR breeding. In study, 524 accessions from a rice germplasm collection and 193 recombinant inbred lines were phenotyped for 17 LR-related traits. Height culm strength (the magnitude applied force necessary to break culm) two major factors affecting LR. We conducted genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified 127 LR-associated loci. Significant phenotypic correlations between culm-strength traits yield-related observed. To reveal relationship them, we GWAS with adding trait as covariate detected 63 loci linking yield. As proof, near-isogenic line an locus on chromosome 7 showed enhanced Strikingly, 58 additional covariate-added GWAS. Several had undergone divergent selection. Linkage analysis supported results. propose that introgression alleles beneficial both panicle weight without negative effects number or pyramiding high-yielding lodging-resistant can be employed post-Green-Revolution
