ABSTRACT
Abstract Canine visceral leishmaniasis is a parasitic zoonosis that has profound impact on public health in countries where it endemic. Chemotherapeutic treatments cannot keep dogs stable for long periods, and the risk of generating resistance must be considered. Forty‐four symptomatic naturally infected with Leishmania infantum were tested two treatment protocols (i) immunotherapy LaSap vaccine (ii) immunochemotherapy plus allopurinol. At 90 days after end treatment, was verified that, although both had generated significant clinical improvements greater production IFN‐γ/IL‐10, relation to parasite load, mainly skin, treated only maintained same profile. These results indicate good strategy control dog parasitism.
