ABSTRACT
Contents The objective of this retrospective study was to evaluate the effect management strategies aiming improve animal well‐being on pregnancy and embryonic death ( ED ) rates. Breeding records a cohort 1206 Thoroughbred mares brought stallion station facility, be bred with stallions housed there, were evaluated during ten breeding seasons. Mares blocked according in two groups: Stress Relax. Strategies used (Relax group) as follows: stopping teasing routine, reducing or eliminating stall confinement, number per group maintaining herd stability season. In barren mares, rate higher Relax (91.8%) when compared observed (84.7%). However, no difference rates (Stress = 85.2% vs. 86.2) foaling mares. (25.5% 26.8%, respectively) (16.1% 14.7%, respectively). No significant differences foal heat between groups; yet, embryo loss reduced 8.7% vs 24.5%). conclusion, aimed reduce social stress can early losses average cycles pregnancy, improving reproductive performance
