Functional capacity and self‐care profiles of older people in senior care homes

ABSTRACT
The reduction of the functional capacity in older people is result physical, psychological and changes related to ageing process, compromising performance daily life activities. Assessing their self‐care profile can facilitate planning targeted strategies stimulation, as well cognitive motor rehabilitation. This study aims evaluate analyse capacity, level dependence senior care centres. a transversal exploratory study, quantitative nature. sample was comprised 313 participants, randomly selected from set centres, with an average age 83.41 ( SD =7.14) years, recruited interior North Portugal. data collection instruments included Barthel Index, Lawton Brody Scale, Evaluation Form Dependence Self‐care, Self‐care Home Dwelling Elderly (self‐care subscale profiles) questionnaire on demographic data. elderly showed several levels different items. It possible observe that staff often replaces many tasks could still be performed by them, thus aggravates dependence. link observed between profiles highlights need focus notion healthy active especially some profiles. monitoring provide knowledge concerning potential for autonomy individual needs, enabling more responsive interventions real needs people.
