Abstract The lithostratigraphic framework of L ake V an, eastern T urkey, has been systematically analysed to document the sedimentary evolution and environmental history lake during past ca 600 000 years. lithostratigraphy chemostratigraphy a 219 m long drill core from an serve separate global climate oscillations local factors caused by tectonic volcanic activity. Six lithotypes were separated event such as volcaniclastics ( 300 layers) graded beds 375 layers), their depositional environments are documented. These are: (i) frequently intercalated with varved silts reflecting rising levels terminations; (ii) strong seasonality intralake oxic–anoxic boundary, for example, lake‐level highstands interglacials/interstadials; (iii) CaCO 3 ‐rich banded sediments which representative lowering level decreases glacial inceptions; (iv) ‐poor mottled boundary close sediment–water interface, lowstands glacials/stadials; (v) diatomaceous muds deposited early beginning fresh water system; (vi) sands gravels indicating initial flooding basin. recurrence lithologies follows five glacial/interglacial cycles. A 20 thick disturbed unit reflects interval major activity in at 414 ka bp .
