Comparing psychopathological symptoms, life satisfaction, and personality traits between the WHO and APA frameworks of gaming disorder symptoms: A psychometric investigation

ABSTRACT
Introduction The inclusion of Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) in the fifth revision Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Mental Disorders ( DSM‐5 ) by American Psychiatric Association 11th International Classification Diseases ICD‐11 World Health Organization requires consistent psychological measures for reliable estimates. current study aimed to investigate psychometric properties Test (GDT), Ten‐Item (IGDT‐10), Five‐Item (GDT‐5) compare WHO APA frameworks gaming disorder symptoms terms psychopathological symptoms, life satisfaction, personality traits. Methods A sample 723 Swedish gamers was recruited (29.8% women, 68.3% men, 1.9% other, M age = 29.50 years, SD 8.91). Results results indicated notable differences regarding estimated possible risk groups between two frameworks. However, association traits, appeared across showed excellent support one‐factor model GDT, IGDT‐10, GDT‐5, including good reliability estimates (McDonald's omega) evidence construct validity. Additionally, demonstrated full gender measurement invariance indicating that are measured equally subgroups.
